MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) - By taking the toughest measures, the Belarusian state has nipped a wave of neo-Nazism in the bud, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with MPs, members of the Constitutional Commission and representatives of the government bodies on 26 May, BelTA has learned.
"We have probably won the war of ideologies. By taking the toughest measures, we have nipped a wave of neo-Nazism in the bud. They want history revision today. Their false convictions of the supremacy of the law are worthless as they attempt to justify Nazism and rewrite history. But our power is truth while theirs is strength,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The president stressed that the Belarusians have matured as a nation to understand where the national identity comes from. “It comes from the Great Victory, when our people fought against the genocide. Now we are investigating this topic closely. We are not hiding any facts, perpetrators. We will no longer feel shame the way we were during the Soviet Union period. We will expose everything that was taking place here. Our actions to unmask criminals may seem excessive to those who justify their atrocities. This strategy, however, is vital to the country,” the head of state said.
