KAZAN, 23 October (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to cooperate with Ukraine but the war has to end first. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in an interview with the BBC reporter Steven Rosenberg on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We are not going to attack anyone, including Ukraine. Ukrainians are our kin. Our kind of people live there. We are ready to cooperate with them regardless of whatever happens over there. We will get to it sooner or later. We had terrible relations with Germans. They shot our kids, dropped them in wells, burned them, hanged them, and so on. But many years later we resumed normal cooperation with Germans. The wounds were healed thanks to our cooperation in trade, economy, technology, and so on. It seems to me the same will happen in relations with Ukraine even faster.”
The president is convinced that after combat operations stop, the West would be unwilling to help Ukraine restore the territory and return to a peaceful life.
“America already says that Ukraine is rich, ready to give up the lands, ready to give up the natural resources that are needed for peace to Americans in addition to high-tech raw materials. This is why we will find common ground with Ukrainians. It is necessary to end this war now,” the head of state stressed.
