Lukashenko: Belarus is ready to admit more foreigners for permanent residence

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to continue welcoming foreign nationals for permanent residence, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with representatives of different nationalities living in Belarus at the Palace of Independence on 12 September, BelTA has learned.

“This is our common home [Belarus]. You do not take the last piece from us. You are hard workers. There is enough work to do here. In some sectors there is even a shortfall of workers. There are doctors and teachers among you. The most important thing is that you are patriots. I often give you as an example to Belarusians. I tell them: “Look, people have come here, and they are more patriotic than others,” the head of state said. “I am glad we have met today. Bring your children, grandchildren, friends here, but only those who wish to work and live a decent life. We will find work for you. What kind of work? It will depend on the needs. We need everyone here today. We are ready to welcome them here.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Ukraine has very hardworking people. Many of them, fleeing the war, have come to Belarus. A few years ago, they were granted equal conditions with Belarusian citizens in terms of employment and social guarantees by the decision of the president. “I say [to the special services]: if a family come, do not even check them, let them in. If a person comes here with children, this cannot be an agent. Of course, we will monitor the others for some time. We accept Ukrainians with open arms, regardless of the war and other things. Not a single family, not a single Ukrainian has ever let us down,” the president noted.

At the end of the meeting Aleksandr Lukashenko once again promised to attend the next edition of the Festival of National Cultures in Grodno. The participants of the meeting presented the head of state with a towel with the word “peace” embroidered in 26 languages. One more gift was a chocolate panel picture featuring the contours of Belarus and the image of a dove of peace.

“Belarus is a territory of peace. Peace is the most precious thing we should value and cherish. This is peace to our home, our neighbors, our countries,” Chairman of the Advisory Council at the Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs Georgy Yeghiazaryan explained the meaning of the gift.
