MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Belarus is going through a very hard period. It is a do-or-die situation. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the Nationwide Conference on Teaching on 27 August, BelTA has learned.
The head of state reminded that once restrictive measures had been enforced against Belarus, he had immediately told the government to forget about these sanctions and focus on developing the economy. In these conditions it was necessary to sell goods abroad in addition to simply manufacturing them. Such a situation represents a major challenge for countries with an export-oriented economy. However, the authorities have dealt with it and ordinary Belarusians have not felt the effects of the large-scale sanctions-fueled pressure, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
“We live in a complicated period of time. I am not talking about the war to the south. About what those crazies in the West are preparing for us. We have to keep it on the radar. In this situation we need to turn the country, this large country (Belarus is not that small if you look at it as a whole) from the West towards the East. It is necessary to make sure that we are welcome in the East. Thank god we’ve managed to accomplish it but it is exceedingly hard work. I want you to understand that the country is going through a very hard period, it is a do-or-die situation,” the president stressed.
“We are getting all kinds of advice from the outside now. I am getting splashed all over with it. They tell me to yield here and release there. Starting with this and ending with betraying Russia and turning our backs on Russia. They encourage me to stand with Ukraine and fight against Russia while NATO troops will be deployed near Smolensk. They go as far as that. I am getting proposals from all sides today. 99% of them are unacceptable for us. This is why I want you to understand in what situation we live. It is everything I can tell you. And I simply cannot tell you as much today. The other matters are for me to deal with. Do your job and I will do mine together with my colleagues in the government, together with top officials,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that during the Nationwide Conference on Teaching he would like to hear the truth from participants of the conference and to feel what they feel and think. “Taking into account the situation that is evolving today,” he added.
