Lukashenko: Belarus develops despite gloomy forecasts and projections

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – Belarus develops despite the gloomiest forecasts and projections. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a solemn assembly held in the Palace of the Republic on 2 July in anticipation of Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

The president recalled that the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory will be celebrated in 2025. Belarus will also mark an anniversary of another milestone in the nation’s development – the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic signed the Charter of the United Nations Organization in 1945. “We joined ranks of the founder countries as a country that had suffered the hardest blow, that had suffered tremendous losses, and had mounted unprecedented nationwide resistance against the aggressor,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“It is bitter and painful to know that international legitimacy cost us terrible human losses. This is how things were back then. It is a law of life,” he continued. “Just as man comes into the world through pain, nations are born in terrible agony. They mature and grow stronger as they fight for their life, for their freedom, and for their historical memory.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus has learned this law, this is why Belarusians have been doing and keep doing everything not to stray from the path chosen by previous generations. And Belarusians have been walking along this path for 30 years already, dealing with sanctions, political intrigues, blackmail, and information provocations. Belarusians build their country despite the gloomiest forecasts and projections.

“Our statehood was projected to fall in the 1990s. Our sovereignty was at stake in 2020. Back then and now we walked along the very edge. But we had enough wisdom, strength, and character to preserve the nation’s legacy, our traditions, values, and historical memory,” the president stressed. “This is why we live in this world. And we have ambitious plans concerning this life.”

The head of state thanked Belarusians for perseverance, unity, and diligence, for the choice they make as they work for the benefit of the native country, preserve traditions, and defend its sovereignty. Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulated people in attendance on Independence Day, the day, which in his words connects ages and people, provides guidelines, and helps endure the onslaught of political storms. “I wish you happiness, prosperity, and good health! I wish peace and accord to our common home – native Belarus!” the president said. “We have nowhere to go because this time, this complicated time has chosen us!”
