Lukashenko: Belarus and Russia are capable of resolving their issues

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Despite tremendous challenges, Belarus and Russia are in a position to resolve the issues facing them, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Governor of Russia’s Khabarovsk Territory Dmitry Demeshin on 3 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that he often meets with Russian governors. “I believe that this is a good way to address key issues that Russia and Belarus are facing today due to a number of circumstances. It is good that the external situation finally forced us to focus on our own problems and to spend less time looking around. I am absolutely sure that we are capable of resolving our issues despite the big challenges we have to face,” the head of state noted.

The president emphasized that the remoteness of Khabarovsk Territory is no obstacle for friendship and close ties between the people of the two countries. “Although we are not geographically close, it does not mean that we are strangers to each other,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.

The president drew attention to the significant increase in trade between Belarus and Khabarovsk Territory. He expressed hope that this trend will remain in place this year. In January-November 2024 the trade between Belarus and Khabarovsk Territory amounted to $47.8 million, the highest since 2019. The trade rose by over 45% year-on-year. The export rose by more than 85%, surpassing the $47 million mark. The export grew on the back of shipments of trucks; they were not delivered to the Russian region in 2023. The export of steel bars, electric transformers, and liquid pumps also went up. Other meaningful exports to Khabarovsk Territory were insulated wires and cables, cheese and cottage cheese.

The head of state outlined key areas for cooperation and added: “We are at your service. We are ready to work in all possible areas. No topics are off-limits. We will cooperate with you in all fields”.
