MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Oman are more than partners, they are friends, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Crown Prince - Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al-Said on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the meeting was also President of the Oman Investment Authority Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi.
“I believe that following my visit to your beautiful country [Aleksandr Lukashenko paid a working visit to Oman in December 2024], we have become not just partners, but friends. We exchange many proposals on how to build our cooperation. We are very interested in your country. Frankly speaking, we see it as a kind of alternative to promote our interests in the region,” the head of state said.

He emphasized that the priority is given to trade and economic cooperation. Belarus is interested in using Oman's port infrastructure to jointly promote trade with other countries, including Africa.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the two countries have already seen that bilateral cooperation is quite feasible: “There are many things in Belarus that are of interest to the Omani side today. We are also interested in you in many ways. This includes holiday trips for our people, agriculture, supply of products. And, most importantly, your ports that we would like to use to operate in the region.”

The head of state noted that he greatly cherishes the memories of his meeting with the Sultan of Oman in Muscat. “A very decent, kind person. We will be pleased to welcome him in Belarus at any time convenient for you. Convey the kindest and warmest regards to him and tell him that I am looking forward to seeing him in Minsk,” the president said.

In turn, Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al-Said thanked the president for the hospitality and warm welcome and conveyed greetings from his father, the Sultan of Oman.

“In fact, after your visit, we have made serious progress in our relations. We started with tourism and hospitality. We are very happy about the launch of a direct flight from Minsk to our southern city of Salalah. Many Belarusians have already visited Oman. We have also set in motion a number of other mutually beneficial projects. I am very glad that the projects that we have discussed will  considerably advance trade and investment cooperation between us,” the Crown Prince noted.
