VOLOZHIN, 19 October (BelTA) – Basic social standards should be revised upwards in Belarus, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the regional stage of the Dazhynki harvest festival in Volozhin on 19 October, BelTA has learned.
“We once introduced a system of basic social standards. Today, it is time to raise them to a higher level,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
He emphasized that living conditions in district centers, agro-towns, villages and other settlements should be comfortable enough for people, including Minskers and residents of other big cities, to want to live, work and raise children there. And not the other way around. “We cannot push people to move to two or three cities in the country, even Minsk. The bitter experience of our neighbors shows that this is a disaster for those who live, say, in Minsk or Moscow,” the president noted.
“We must make sure that our children have an opportunity to run barefoot on the grass, breathe fresh air, eat food that they grow. In this case they will not break away from their native land and look for a better life somewhere far away. We should encourage and empower our children to work in their native land. If we promote these genuine values from childhood, we will not have to worry about the future of the country,” the head of state remarked.
