Lukashenko asked to run for presidency again

SHKLOV, 10 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked to run for the next term during a meeting with residents of the agrotown of Gorodishche, Shklov District on 10 August. The request was put forward by a woman who came to meet with the president. She said that she met the head of state for the third time already, BelTA has learned.

“I wish you strong health first of all. This is the most important thing. I want you to run for president next year as well. I also have one more request, which is to change the Constitution a little bit so that our President could run for the indefinite term. Aleksandr Grigoriyevich, this is the third time I have met you. We met in 1995. Then we met in Lipovka. I am from Kostyukovichi District. The main thing I wish you is health and patience in this difficult time. Thank you for what you have done for our country,” the local resident said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said in this regard: "I am already publicly starting to say it to all of you. You should start getting used to the fact (I have spoiled you a bit) that you will have someone new on the post of the president. I am not saying that I will leave tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow... Well, everything happens in life. You should get used to the fact that I am not eternal. No one is.

The president noted that a new generation is growing up and is being prepared to take the reins.

"They have not yet learned the experience," the woman remarked.

"I agree. I know my risks. Before I go, I must find a good replacement... Once I leave and get settled in a village somewhere near you, I'll come and you'll remember things and thank me that things have not gotten worse," the president replied.

"Things are good with you. It is quiet, peaceful, calm," the local resident continued the dialog.

"This is the main thing," Aleksandr Lukashenko concurred.
