Lukashenko arrives in Russia's Kazan

KAZAN, 21 February (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived in Russia's Tatarstan on a working visit. The aircraft with the Belarusian leader onboard landed in Kazan International Airport, BelTA has learned.

At the airport Aleksandr Lukashenko was greeted by Head of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov, First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Nigmatullin, and other officials.

At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Belarusian head of state will attend the opening ceremony of the international hi-tech tournament Games of the Future 2024 in Kazan. A number of foreign leaders are expected to visit the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation for this large-scale multi-sport event.

What are the Games of the Future?

Vladimir Putin invited his CIS counterparts to attend the tournament during the CIS informal summit St. Petersburg in late December 2023.  


The international multi-sport tournament Games of the Future is a hi-tech sports show. It consists of competitions in physical and digital dimensions. Over 270 teams and more than 2,000 athletes from 107 countries will take part in the tournament. The competition program includes 21 disciplines. They support the phygital concept, uniting classic sports, cybersports and technology. 

 The competitions will be broadcast live. According to preliminary forecasts, the number of views of the Games broadcasts on streaming platforms will exceed 3 billion.

Does Belarus take part in the Games of the Future?

Belarus will compete in several disciplines. These are phygital basketball and phygital football, battle of robots, drone racing, indoor cycling phygital BMX and World of Tanks.

In basketball Belarus will face Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, China, Spain, Serbia and Guatemala. In the battle of robots Belarus will compete with Russia, India, Chile, UAE and Kazakhstan, and in the virtual cycling race – with Argentina, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Portugal, Italy, Russia and the UK.
