MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in the Sultanate of Oman on a working visit, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The relations between Belarus and Oman rely on the foundation that was laid back in 2007 during Aleksandr Lukashenka's first-ever visit to the country. Since then, the parties have significantly expanded the legal framework for bilateral cooperation and carried out landmark high-level visits. Joint work has been underway in a number of areas.
Trade and economic interaction will be in the focus of Aleksandr Lukashenko's current visit. The matter is about expanding trade and developing cooperation in industry and agriculture and other areas of mutual interest.
At the airport the head of state was welcomed by Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, and Abdulsalam Al Murshidi, the President of Oman Investment Authority (OIA).
Just before Aleksandr Lukashenko's arrival, Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt and Oman Sergei Terentyev talked to the media to share his vision of the prospects of cooperation between the two countries.
“We need to convert the favorable political capital, the favorable atmosphere of political relations into economic benefits: to intensify our trade, technological exchanges, investment cooperation,” the diplomat said.
According to him, there are also prospects for cooperation in science and high technologies. It is important to develop humanitarian interaction, including in tourism. “There is great interest in our achievements in healthcare,” the ambassador emphasized.
All these areas will be considered during the upcoming summit talks.
“The Belarusian president is scheduled to meet with Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The leaders of the countries are set to discuss the state and prospects for the development of relations and ways to give additional impetus to bilateral cooperation. The heads of state are also expected to exchange views on the current international agenda,” the president's press service said.
