MOSCOW, 9 May (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived at the Kremlin to attend a military parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The parade will take place in Red Square, BelTA has learned.

Foreign leaders invited to the parade will first gather at the Senate Palace. After arriving and meeting with the Russian president, the delegations will be escorted to a special pavilion in Red Square for a brief wait, after which all heads of state will move to the central podium to watch the parade.

The parade will be reviewed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Belarusian servicemen will also march in Red Square. Once the parade is over, the leaders will lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden near the Kremlin.

After participating in the festivities in Moscow, Aleksandr Lukashenko will head back to Minsk to host the parade on the occasion of Victory’s 80th anniversary. The parade in the Belarusian capital will take place in the evening.

More than two dozen foreign leaders gathered in Moscow for 9 May. The day before, the Kremlin hosted a concert for the heads of delegations invited to the celebrations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event was held in Andreyevsky Hall. The heads of state also took the opportunity for informal communication.

During the concert, Aleksandr Lukashenko sat next to the president of Russia in the same row with the leaders of China, Kazakhstan and Armenia. Many other leaders of foreign countries were also present. Among them, for example, were the presidents of Serbia, Egypt, Venezuela and Cuba.

On 9 May, the Belarusian president extended greetings to Belarusians and foreign leaders on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

“For Belarusians this is a sacred date and is an occasion to reflect on the lessons of the past, think about the value of peace and pay tribute to those who saved humanity from fascism, defended our independence and happy future. Grateful descendants keep alive the memory of each of the millions of defenders of the unconquered Motherland who were tortured and killed by the Nazis, who selflessly fought at the front, in the ranks of partisans and underground fighters, worked on the home front and after liberation revived the country from ruins,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
