Lukashenko addresses issue of capital flight from Belarus

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko raised the issue of capital flight from the country as he met with his authorized representatives on 4 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state pointed out the issue of capital flight was raised during his meeting with the prosecutor general. It turned out that hundreds of millions of funds were pulled out abroad over the year, rather than tens of millions, as the president was previously informed. “The responsible officials reported that there were no particular problems: if there were any such precedents, the amounts were quite insignificant, around 15 million. It turns out that it were not millions, but rather hundreds of millions,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

However, earlier the president instructed to make sure that foreign investors leaving Belarus do not unreasonably pull out funds earned here. "If you decide to leave Belarus, please do so," the head of state always emphasized.

“They are pulling out the dividends. Did they earn this money themselves? They paid a poor salary to our people, fled abroad and pulled out the money. Is this okay?” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“So, in the near future we will figure out how the government implemented the decisions I made,” the president said.
