Lukashenko thanks China for support in SCO, BRICS

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Belarus appreciates China's support in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

“Thank you for the enormous support you provided after we applied for full membership at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We appreciate your support for our cooperation with BRICS countries. A BRICS summit that will bring together the association's member states and partners will be held in Kazan in the near future, and we will be there, too,” the head of state said.

A reminder, Belarus became a full member of the SCO at the Astana summit in early July. The country is also interested in being part of integration processes in BRICS. Aleksandr Lukashenko announced these plans at a meeting on international issues on 29 July.

BRICS has some of the most powerful states among its members representing over 40% of the global population. “We are interested in joining integration processes in this space. BRICS is another pillar that can help us maintain balance and economic stability,” the Belarusian president said.
