High-tech agricultural sector described as strategic goal for Belarus

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – We should aim for a high-tech, profitable agricultural sector. This is our strategic goal, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss rural development and efficiency of the agricultural sector, BelTA has learned.

At the meeting, the president outlined a number of problems in the main sectors in agriculture and demanded to report on how they are being resolved. "Indeed, the industry has something to be proud of. But if the problems remain unresolved, then all our successes will very quickly come to naught," the head of state explained.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that agriculture is the responsibility of regional governors and chairmen of district executive committees. "You can turn to the government for some kind of financial support or the help with fuel. This is done every year. Everything else is on  you. The governors should set the tone," he said.

"Our strategic goal is to set up a high-tech, profitable agricultural sector. It is vital we maximize the potential of our agricultural industry, to tackle the current problems, to think about tomorrow and even the day after tomorrow. I said what you need to do. Roll up your sleeves and get down to work. With your cloths on or off is up to you," the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded to solve the issues lying on the surface within a year and to think about the strategy.
