MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian economy is performing well by and large this year, although certain things cause concern, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he was receiving a report from Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko on 17 June, BelTA has learned.

“I receive reports that the economy is doing well so far this year. Although there are certain alarming things, as always. I would like us to pay attention to this, first of all. What is even more important is that we have a trade deficit, media organizations of various levels report about it. Although this deficit [in foreign trade] is small. As I see it, the Economy Ministry and the government should have paid attention to this and come to grips with this situation,” the head of state said.

He also asked about the situation with payments at the highest level, namely the amount of receivables and payables.

Another topic of the report dealt with fulfillment of debt obligations.

Aleksandr Lukashenko asked about progress to arrange maintenance service of Belarusian equipment abroad: “We agreed that we need to set up single centers for servicing all Belarusian equipment, and we also need to decide where we should do it, be it in Russia, the People’s Republic of China, and others states.”

“They tell me that we have certain problems with housing construction. There are also a number of other issues we should attend to,” the Belarusian leader noted.

The president discussed separately the situation in agriculture. “We need to mobilize. The weather is good so far. God willing, it will continue to be like this. We expect a good harvest, but we need to work hard for it. We need to have some extra grain, this might come in handy. This is akin to our gold and foreign exchange reserves,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also said that he would like to discuss candidacies for existing vacancies.
