MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – During a working visit to Minsk Oblast, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on Russia-USA talks, BelTA has learned.
“You see the change in the political situation that was a huge factor in the economic development due to US policy. But don't be deluded. We don't know what the US wants. I am saying this because I am well informed about these issues. We don't know what they will demand from the Russians in exchange for ending the war and so on. It seems to me that they will try to pit the Russians against the Chinese. The Russians cannot allow this to happen,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president went on saying: “Certain developments will be grist to our mill. Yet, if Putin and Trump reach an agreement and American companies followed by European ones return there, it will be disadvantageous for us. It will not be easy to compete in our market. But food will always be in demand. Therefore, shake things up in the country properly.”
As reported by BelTA, the order to “shake things up in the country” primarily concerned the agricultural industry. The head of state held a visiting seminar on 21 February to discuss agriculture. The authorized representatives and aides to the president in the regions were invited to participate. Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded strict compliance with technological procedures and wanted better discipline in order to improve the performance of the agricultural sector and increase the export of agricultural products.
