CSTO advised to consider adopting China's way of information warfare on internet

MOSCOW, 16 May (BelTA) – The CSTO member states should consider adopting China-style way of conducting an information warfare on the internet, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow on 16 May, BelTA has learned.

“We need to think seriously about it and maybe follow the path of China in the information warfare, especially on the internet,” the head of state said.

He called on increasing the effectiveness of countering challenges and threats in the information space, including fake news and disinformation. “It is clear that a hybrid war was launched against us, and its main component is the information warfare. In order to counter this, it is necessary to make the most of the 2017 CSTO agreement on cooperation in information security, to actively promote the CSTO in social networks that are intensively used by our Western opponents. This will help us effectively challenge fake news,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to him, appropriate tasks should be set for everyone - foreign ministries, special services and the CSTO secretariat.
