MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed decree No.96 “On the National Center of Legislation and Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus” on 14 March, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

The document provides for reorganizing the National Center of Legislation and Legal Research and the National Center of Legal Information by merging the two centers into one that will be accountable to the head of state. The move will allow pooling the human resources, scientific, and technological potential of the previously operating agencies. It will rule out duplicate functions and will improve performance in the corresponding areas of law work.

The new agency will also get two new functions: the development of the most important legal instruments using the package principle (for instance, simultaneous development of draft laws and related presidential decrees) and the organization of additional independent legal evaluation of all kinds of legislation upon instructions of the head of state or the Belarus President Administration.

The Belarus President Administration will be in charge of providing overall direction of the center’s operation.

The creation of the National Center of Legislation and Legal Information and the accompanying organizational steps will be completed by 1 July 2024.
