CHECHERSK, 29 April (BelTA) - The residents of Chechersk presented Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko with the icon of George the Victorious and honey from the local apiary on 29 April, BelTA has learned.
Chairman of the Chechersk District Executive Committee Yuri Derkachev said that under the leadership of the head of state the Belarusians had been dealing well with the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. “We will deal with the sanctions, too!” he said and presented Aleksandr Lukashenko with the Icon of George the Victorious as a symbol of courage and victory.
The icon was made by a local craftsman using electroplating technology.
The residents of Chechersk also told the head of state that the money earned during the regional voluntary labor day would be used to set up the memorial complex Partisanskaya Krinichka near Gomel. In this regard, they invited the president to inaugurate the memorial in the summer.
“Thank you. You name the date and I will do my best to attend the ceremony,” Aleksandr Lukashenko promised.
