Belarusian MPs urged to hear people, incorporate their proposals into laws

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – It is the job of the parliament to feel needs and moods of the people and take into account their proposals in the course of lawmaking. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with parliamentarians, members of the Constitutional Commission, and representatives of government bodies on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Work with the society at the local level is the most important direction in the work of people's representatives of all levels. Dozens of thousands of citizens stand behind every one of you. It is the job of MPs to feel their needs and moods, take into account their proposals in the course of legislation development, and come up with legislative initiatives on the basis of the society's needs. And most importantly members of the parliament should become the voice of the independent, sovereign, and civilized state. You should carry truth to the people.”

He also remarked that an objective analysis of the situation and a forecast of its development several steps forward are necessary. “All the tensions around us will be forgotten in two weeks. A new situation will be created and hyped up in order to secure interests or ratings,” Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced.

The president also stressed: “We cannot allow a split of the society due to any criteria – national or religious ones. We have to expand opportunities for the self-realization of patriotically minded active citizens.”
