MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – The national mass media should propagandize nothing but the truth and build their work solely in this vein, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he heard out a report on current issues related to the country’s information policy on 29 August, BelTA has learned.
“I urge you to be based on the truth. We will propagandize only our Belarusian truth,” the head of state said.
“We have enough topics favorable for us. They are very important for us - we should show them as they are,” the Belarusian leader said.
“We have found ourselves in an amazing situation here. We do not have to lie. We do not have to make anything up. Other countries cannot afford this. They always need to present something in a favorable way, to put it mildly. We do not have to do that. We just need to show things as they are,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko cited migration policy as an example. In this matter, both the head of state and the Belarusian media do not hide anything and show the situation as it is. “Yes, we will keep propagandizing our migration policy in the sense that we were once open for Europe [in terms of cooperation] on migration and even a mouse could not cross the border unnoticed then. They reproach us for having departed from that policy, but we spoke about it long time ago,” he said.
The president recalled that Belarus and the European Union used to cooperate on the matter, and the European Union financed temporary detention centers for migrants on the territory of Belarus, and there was an agreement on readmission. The West, however, changed its policy and began to strangle the country in the economic, political and informational sense. “You know it better than me. Why should we protect them in terms of migration policy? It was their protection. They were calling these people to them, and at the same time said to us quietly: “You do like this and we give you money for it.” They moved away from that policy. We frankly said: “We are not going to pursue this policy any longer, too,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“The same is true about the Ukrainian crisis. It is an absolutely clear and honest policy,” the head of state added.
