MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Vietnam have discussed the resumption of regular supplies of machinery and the establishment of joint manufacturing facilities, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said following his talks with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam in Minsk on 12 may, BelTA learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko called To Lam his good friend and noted that the parties had a frank and thorough exchange of views on a number of topical issues and discussed in detail the prospects for further work.
"During the talks we paid the most serious attention to the manufacturing sector, first of all, mechanical engineering. We are in full agreement here: it is important to resume regular deliveries of Belarusian rock haulers, trucks, and, of course, legendary BELARUS tractors to Vietnamese customers. We agreed to speed up the project to set up joint production of Belarusian tractors and MAZ vehicles at the site of our friends, that will also cater to other markets in the region," the Belarusian leader said.
According to the president, cooperation in agriculture and food supplies is traditionally strong in the bilateral relations.
A decision was also made to step up interaction in science and technology and to hold a regular meeting of the joint Belarusian-Vietnamese commission on cooperation in science and technology in 2025. "The issue of ensuring technological security and sovereignty is strategically important for all states without exception, and long hiatus in the work of this commission, taking into account the rapidly increasing pace of science and technology development, are unacceptable today. The head of the Vietnamese delegation also spoke about this," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
