MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Belarus plans to expand energy infrastructure, which will also help address environmental issues, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 11 February, BelTA has learned.
"The nuclear plant, the replacement of natural gas, the transfer to clean electricity will have a positive effect. The tasks for the five-year period are very clear, namely to develop the electricity transmission infrastructure," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
He promised that the government would find a way to partially subsidize the electricity tariff. “We need to connect agro-towns, large villages, towns to the grid and give our people a new clean life,” the head of state said.
The construction of all-electric homes is also promising, he said. “People have liked the idea. We will be switching to these standards. These homes are safe and very comfortable,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
