Belarus' nuclear power plant commissioning to be timed to 7 November

MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – The commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is to be timed to 7 November, October Revolution Day, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with high-ranking officials on 16 September, BelTA has learned.

“I invite everyone. I think that on 7 November, which is a remarkable day for us, we will be able to go there and say that we have generated the first electricity at our nuclear power plant,” the head of state said.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using a Russian design featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. Rosatom's engineering division – ASE Company – is the general contractor. The 3+ generation nuclear units have improved performance indicators.
