MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed decree No.397 on 17 October to improve the operation of the commission set up under the Prosecutor General’s Office to deal with petitions of Belarusian citizens concerning the law violations they may have committed, the president’s press service told BelTA.

The commission is now permanent (its mandate was supposed to expire on 31 December 2024 before that). Apart from that, the commission has been granted the right to look into petitions of Belarusian citizens, who are abroad or inside the country’s territory. Petitions from the latter will be looked into upon instructions of the president.

After reviewing the petitions, citizens will be notified about the presence or absence of administrative proceedings, criminal proceedings against them and about an ongoing investigation into their actions, about the presence or absence of grounds for such an investigation.
