MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has approved the appointment of Igor Lutsky as Chairman of the Board of ZAO Second National Television Channel, BelTA has learned.
At present Igor Lutsky is the Chairman of the Education, Science, Culture, and Social Development Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
He worked in executive positions in leading Belarusian mass media for years in the past. He worked as the first deputy director general of the news agency BelTA and as the head of ZAO Stolichnoye Televideniye (the TV channel STV).
The new ONT head worked in the Information Ministry for a long time, including in the capacity of the information minister. Before getting elected to the Council of the Republic Igor Lutsky oversaw mass media as a deputy head of the Belarus President Administration.
Speaking about Igor Lutsky’s appointment, Aleksandr Lukashenko said he would like the TV channel to come up with new and original things. “He is a good television professional. He knows mass media rather well. A well-trained man. But he should become recognizable,” the president said.
He remarked that other candidates, including quite good reporters, had been nominated for the position of the head of the TV channel ONT. “But I simply took pity on them. We can run them into the ground,” the head of state remarked. “I am simply afraid of losing the guys that have been nominated. They are no civil servants. They are good reporters. They know the staff. It is true. But they… They have to be executives after all. And the TV channel is not that simple. It has already earned a decent reputation. This is why any mistake will be noticed by viewers, by the population, let alone by the Belarus President Administration and so on.”
Igor Lutsky has authority and extensive experience of working in government bodies. These factors are good for starting in a new position. “He will have to work with people tomorrow. And reporters are a special kind of people. But they will not be able to complain about him with his track record. He is free to build on top of that. Later on the staff will evaluate him on the basis of his work. But on the whole, his reputation is good,” the president said.
At the same time Aleksandr Lukashenko once again drew attention to the importance of not losing good promising personnel, reporters, including those, who had been nominated for the position of the head of the TV channel: “We should keep them in mind. We need to see where they can grow. After all, career advancement is important.”
The president also warned that the new executive has no time to take things slowly. And considering Igor Lutsky’s experience he will not have to. “It is good that he has agreed [to the appointment]. The first question was whether Lutsky agrees to it. Yes, they said, he agrees. Well done for agreeing to it. We need it very much. He is now back on his track,” the head of state added.
