MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) - The first meeting of the High-China-Belarus High-Level Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in Beijing. Belarus’ official delegation was headed by Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, and the Chinese delegation was led by Zhang Qingwei, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, BelTA has learned.
"The interaction between Belarus and China has become a paragon of international relations of the new time. Thanks to the leaders of our countries, bilateral relations are on the rise. In 2022, the relations reached the level of an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. Political trust is constantly growing stronger. The two countries also actively cooperate within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. In particular, our international cooperation is becoming increasingly close. I think that the High-Level Committee will become a platform for direct and effective communication between our parliaments. We will make every effort to turn it into an effective tool,” Zhang Qingwei said.
The Chinese MP supports more contacts between the parliaments, as well as the building up of ties through women's organizations and young parliamentarians. “Through mutual visits and meetings, videoconferencing, we are ready, together with Belarus, to monitor the most topical issues of mutual interest,” he said. “Cooperation between our countries in humanitarian projects, medical education and healthcare in general, as well as in higher education and culture has been steadily developing in recent years. Belarus has already been included in the list of approved destinations for outbound tourism in China. I think this will also contribute to strengthening the bilateral dialogue between our peoples, to expand its scope”.
The High-Level Committee on Cooperation between the Legislative Bodies of the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of Cina has been established in accordance with the agreement on cooperation between the National Assembly of Belarus and the National People's Congress of China. Its goals are to deepen and strengthen relations between the two states, analyze cooperation between the legislative bodies, and to promote proposals and recommendations on cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in various areas.
