Zas: CSTO is determined to defend interests of its member states in 2021

MINSK, 31 December (BelTA) – The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is determined to defend the interests of the participating states in 2021, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said in his New Year address sent to BelTA.

“We believe that the upcoming year will bring only good news. The outgoing year became a serious test for all of us, changing the usual rhythm of life for many people. The struggle against the pandemic was brought to the fore. The statehood and civil society of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia were also put to the test. This helped us realize how vulnerable and fragile the modern world is and that we are all responsible for the security and well-being of our Motherland,” the CSTO secretary general noted.

He added that in this difficult period the CSTO member states demonstrated solidarity and mutual assistance. “This once again confirms the unconditional importance and significance of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and is a testimony to friendship between our nations. In 2020 the CSTO adopted a number of important strategic documents on the development of a collective security system in the military sphere, on political cooperation and joint response to challenges and threats. We stepped up joint fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking. The peacekeeping component of the CSTO has been strengthened,” he said.

“In the upcoming year we are determined to continue defending the interests of the CSTO member states, protecting peace and stability there, as well as expanding cooperation with external partners. I am convinced that together we can overcome any challenges and ensure collective security in the Eurasian space,” the CSTO secretary general said..

Stanislav Zas wished everyone good health, self-confidence and new achievements.
