MOSCOW, 15 May (BelTA) - Russia's position on a possible peace deal with Ukraine has changed to reflect changes on the ground, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told journalists, BelTA learned
"Yes, there are changes in Russia’s position. These changes reflect the developments on the ground," Maria Zakharova said when asked whether Russia's position at the upcoming talks in Istanbul has changed compared to the agreements worked out in 2022.
"Here’s fresh news: the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation informed that the Russian army has liberated Novoaleksandrovka and Torskoye in the DPR. Here are the changes for you," she added.
Maria Zakharova recalled the statement made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on 28 September 2024 at a press conference on the margins of the UN General Assembly: "In April 2022, an agreement between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators was reached in Istanbul. If it had been implemented, as Sergey Lavrov noted, Ukraine would have still retained a part of Donbass."
