MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – It's time the EU countries wake up and realize where the United States and the UK are taking them, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said on the air of the Russian First Channel, TASS has reported.
"At some point Europe should wake up and ask itself where this so-called Anglo-Saxon duo is leading it. By the way, the UK left the EU at a time when it became more advantageous for it to be outside the EU," the diplomat said.
"Once the European partners make a decision that their own interests take priority, it is probably only then that something will change for them. For the time being they will continue not to hear and understand," Maria Zakharova said.
She also said that the United States is encouraging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not to implement the Minsk agreements, while destroying his country. "He [Volodymyr Zelensky] does not want to hear what needs to be done to move toward the settlement of the situation, and implement the Minsk agreements. Why doesn't he hear it? Because behind him, next to him and holding his hand, are his American curators, who tell him other things and push him not to comply with the Minsk agreements, while simultaneously bringing down his country," Maria Zakharova said.
The diplomat also noted that no one is heeding "the pleas of the Ukrainian president to stop the campaign of information terrorism" because it is affecting his country. "He tried to explain to them using one-syllable words that they were destroying the Ukrainian economy, killing its investment potential. They just wouldn't hear it," Maria Zakharova said.
Meanwhile, Europe is standing there and watching, not understanding what will happen to the European continent.
