MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – Relations between Belarus and China rely on a solid foundation of political trust, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said at a solemn event to mark the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China, BelTA has learned.
“Thirty-two years ago, during a tumultuous period of transformations unfolding around the world, the leaders of China and Belarus, remembering the lessons of the past and seeking to build a better future, made a strategic decision to establish diplomatic relations,” the diplomat noted. “China was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Belarus and to establish diplomatic relations with it,” the ambassador said.
Xie Xiaoyong emphasized that the bilateral relations have made remarkable progress over 32 years. The two countries have passed this difficult path shoulder to shoulder.
“China and Belarus cooperate in various fields and this cooperation relies on mutual respect and mutual benefits. They support each other amidst a difficult situation in the world. Bilateral relations have proved to be resilient, viable and promising and have become a paragon of a new type of international relations,” the ambassador noted.
“A high level of political trust remains a reliable foundation for China-Belarus relations,” Xie Xiaoyong is convinced. “China and Belarus respect and uphold each other’s path of development and domestic and foreign policies, they firmly support each other on issues related to their fundamental interests, such as sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” he said.
He went on saying: “Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the two countries have exchanged high-level visits on a regular basis, with more than 60 visits having already taken place at the level of deputy prime minister or higher. The two countries interact closely on the bilateral agenda and on a number of international and regional issues. The level of mutual trust is growing every day. Over the past ten years, under the guidance and leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Aleksandr Lukashenko, the bilateral relations have made considerable progress, their quality has improved and their status has increased. Thus, the two nations have reached new heights of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership,” the ambassador said.
Xie Xiaoyong added that the reception to mark the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations is the first event hosted by the Embassy of China after moving to a new building. “At the beginning of the new year, the embassy is hosting the event to mark the anniversary of China-Belarus diplomatic relations in the new building, which can be called triple joy for all of us,” the ambassador noted.
