MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Belarus' western neighbors are unwilling to discuss problems at the negotiating table, Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department of the Belarusian Defense Ministry, Defense Minister Aide for International Military Cooperation Oleg Voinov told the media, BelTA has learned.
“It must be noted that our neighbors are reluctant to discuss the problems at the negotiating table. Their steps in general are far from what can be presented as a way out of the current situation. For example, on 8 December, military attachйs of Poland and Lithuania held an emphatically anti-Belarus briefing at the Polish embassy in China, to which the Belarusian representative was not invited. The event did not add stability and did not solve the existing contradictions. On the contrary, it only aggravated the tensions. At the same time China declared the Lithuanian military diplomat persona non grata on 13 December,” said Oleg Voinov.
Moreover, as a measure supposedly aimed at counteracting migration, an active military buildup continues in the territory of the neighboring states in the immediate vicinity of the Belarusian border. “I emphasize, it has already become multinational. It is reflected both in the regrouping and the substantial buildup of forces and means, as well as in the implementation of serious additional measures of operational and combat training. At the same time when it was possible to demonstrate transparency and ease tension, our so-called partners do not consider it necessary to provide any information about the ongoing maneuvers. This is both a proactive violation of existing arms control documents and mechanisms and a direct disregard of our requests,” Oleg Voinov said.
