MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) - Washington continues to play the role of "a geopolitical puppet master" in the context of the developments in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said when asked about the United States’ role in the Syrian events, TASS reports.
"I think it’s no exaggeration to say that they [the Americans] have not just tried on the role of a geopolitical puppet master. They have been playing this role in the current developments," he noted.
Sergey Ryabkov noted that Washington learns nothing from history, and its intervention in many Middle Eastern nations has led to tragic consequences.
"The Americans leave ruins in the wake of their interference, and many of those ruins have not been restored to this day," Sergey Ryabkov pointed out. "The institutions they tried to establish to replace the ones they destroyed have failed to function effectively. For many residents, there is no stability and no prosperity," he added.
"I would hate to think that Syria might face something like this in the future due to their involvement, but the latest developments are very alarming," the Russian deputy foreign minister remarked.
