MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) - Irina Velichko, Head of the Directorate General for Multilateral Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, met with John Brandolino, Director of the Treaty Affairs Division at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on 30 June, BelTA has learned.
John Brandolino commended Belarus for its leading role in coordinating international efforts to combat human trafficking and praised the productive nature of the long-standing cooperation between the UNODC and Belarus in this area.
Irina Velichko highlighted the significant contribution of the UNODC in assisting states with the implementation of existing multilateral documents and in strengthening legal and institutional capacities, reaffirming Belarus’ support for the agency’s work.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further cooperation between the UNODC and Belarus in Vienna and New York, with a primary focus on coordinating international efforts to combat human trafficking, including the organization of thematic events. Both parties pointed out the strong potential and outlined promising areas to expand cooperation.
During the visit to Vienna, Irina Velichko also held a working meeting with Jean-Benoit Manhes, Deputy Coordinator in the OSCE Office of the Special Representative for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.
