MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) - Hungary considers the policy of sanctions unreasonable and is in favor of lifting the restrictions, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told the media in Minsk on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
According to him, the European economy suffers more from the sanctions than the countries they have been imposed against. Besides, there are many ways and many those willing to bypass the sanctions. “We, Hungarians, conclude that if sanctions do not work, they worth nothing, and it is not worth imposing them. Our colleagues in Europe say that if sanctions do not work, they should be tightened. I think this is an unwise decision,” the minister said. “Adhering to the strategy of economic neutrality, we do not like sanctions. We believe that it is necessary to remove obstacles and provide freedom for the world economy to act.”
In cooperation with Belarus, Hungary, according to the minister, seeks to develop trade and economic contacts wherever it is not restricted by sanctions, and intends to continue doing so. “This is in the interests of our people. We do not want to abandon it,” he stressed. According to the Hungarian side, bilateral trade between Belarus and Hungary has increased by 12% this year, the country's exports - by 30%.
