Szijjarto: Dialogue helps prevent many calamities

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Open diplomatic channels are essential to preventing many calamities, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at the session of Belarus-Hungary intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Peter Szijjarto remarked that the mere arrival of a Hungarian delegation in Belarus for economic talks under current difficult circumstances is itself a significant achievement.

“We Hungarians believe that common sense, mutual trust, and cool-headed rationality are paramount. When [geopolitical] lightning strikes overhead, dialogue is our only hope. It is my hope that Hungary will always maintain the position that open diplomatic channels are essential to preventing greater calamities,” the minister said.

The minister declared Hungary’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Belarus – a commitment demonstrated by the presence of a Hungarian business delegation in Minsk. He specifically highlighted nuclear energy as a key sector for potential partnership.

He also expressed gratitude to Belarus for facilitating the transit of Hungarian oil.

Furthermore, Hungary proposed measures to streamline the import of its agricultural products into the Belarusian market.
