MINSK, 5 September (BELTA) – The way Belarus defends itself and creates its own path commands respect, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas said at an official event marking the 81st anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising and the Day of the Constitution of Slovakia on 4 September, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that this is his second time coming to Belarus as Slovakia’s ambassador and that he holds the Belarusian people in the highest regard.

“It is a great honor for us to once again return to the tradition that the Slovak embassy, as the embassy of an EU country, continues so that we may live in friendship and cooperation,” Ambassador Jozef Migas emphasized, addressing participants of the event.

He spoke in detail about the features of the Slovak National Uprising, whose 81st anniversary was celebrated, and about the contribution of the Slovak people to the Great Victory over fascism.

“This is our most important and most significant holiday,” the ambassador noted.

Ambassador Jozef Migas also touched upon the celebration of Slovakia’s Constitution Day and the fact that, after the peaceful constitutional division into two countries, the Slovak and Czech peoples have lived in peace and harmony.

Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of developing friendship and cooperation with Slovakia.
