MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - The CSTO should adapt to the current conditions of the international situation, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said at a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA Council) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 19 May, BelTA has learned.
“We have witnessed and participated in a new ferocious redivision of the world. We must recognize that the crisis of international relations and the ongoing transformation of the world geopolitical landscape are accompanied by an unprecedented increase in tension and further degradation of the existing security system,” Igor Sergeyenko said. “Under these conditions, the CSTO must adapt to the current conditions of the international situation. Only in this way will we be able to ensure a timely and most effective response to the changing challenges and threats to security.”
There is a need for a clear vision of further goals and objectives of the Organization's activities, the speaker said. “The parliamentary component of the CSTO should make its practical contribution to this work,” he emphasized. “The priority of our activities at the present stage should be strengthening of unity and mutual support. A good example of joint work is the adoption of the Statement on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory by the members of the Eurasia geopolitical group as part of the 150th IPU Assembly. Our common voice sounds louder, taken into consideration, including by our opponents. This is an excellent result of how joint efforts and concerted action are realized in momentous military and political decisions aimed at maintaining stability and security.”
