Senator: West seeks to create zone of instability in the region

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) - Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov today took part in the first meeting of the chairmen of the international affairs committees (commissions) of the parliaments of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament.

The videoconference meeting discussed the development of international relations of the CSTO PA, the CSTO peacekeeping operation to stabilize the situation in Kazakhstan in January 2022, the areas to beef up the legal support of the peacekeeping activities of the CSTO states, measures to protect the electoral sovereignty of the CSTO member states. The MPs were also briefed on the progress in the Russia-USA and Russia-NATO negotiations on security guarantees.

Sergei Rachkov spoke on the military-political situation in the national segments of the CSTO zone of responsibility. The senator said: “The military and political situation in the Eastern European region continues to develop amid growing crisis phenomena and trends, which take real shape and become practical confirmation of the course of the collective West, led by the United States, to form an unstable zone. Belarus, which is actively developing cooperation with Russia in the political, military and economic sectors, has become one of the main obstacles to the implementation of these plans, becoming an object of large-scale hybrid aggression of Western states and organizations.”

“There are reasons to predict that the crisis potential will continue growing in the military and political situation in the East European region. It is possible that NATO and its allies will continue military build-up on the western borders of the CSTO area of responsibility. Such a trend will lead to the adoption of appropriate response measures on the part of our military and political organization,” the MP stressed.
