MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov received copies of credentials from Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus Ignazio Ceffalia, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current status of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus and the state of bilateral relations. The parties also touched upon prospects to enhance dialogue with the Vatican, particularly in light of the recent opening of the Embassy of Belarus to the Holy See.
Maksim Ryzhenkov and Ignazio Ceffalia exchanged views on key international issues, reaffirming the common approaches of Belarus and the Vatican toward peace in Europe, the preservation of traditional values, and the strengthening of interfaith dialogue. They also explored ways to implement initiatives of Aleksandr Lukashenko to reinforce the role of traditional religious denominations in Belarus, including the Roman Catholic Church, and developing relations with the Vatican.
Maksim Ryzhenkov wished fruitful work in Belarus to the apostolic nuncio.
As it was reported earlier, Ignazio Ceffalia was born in Palermo on 28 April 1975. He was ordained a priest on 6 August 2003. He graduated in canon law.
He entered the Holy See diplomatic service on 1 July 2006, and has served in the apostolic nunciature in Ecuador, Thailand, the Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Secretariat of State, and finally in Venezuela. He speaks Italian, Albanian, French, English, and Spanish.
