MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) –  This year Belarus' trade with China may be twice as high as with the European Union, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

"Nowadays, our trade with China is larger than that with the European Union. Although about four years ago, it was probably three times smaller. If this year trade continues to grow at its current rate, including our exports to China, it will be approximately twice as high as our trade with the European Union," Maksim Ryzhenkov said.

He noted that Belarus considers it important to participate in the activities of BRICS and the SCO. Firstly, it helps deepen relationships with the members and partners of these organizations. Secondly, it creates new opportunities for multilateral cooperation in various areas.

"It is not just about building pragmatic interactions but also about involving ordinary people in this process: youth, parliamentarians, and business representatives, so that all these people can embrace each other's cultural diversity. Ultimately, this helps strengthen friendship, partnership, and sincerity in relations with other countries," the minister emphasized. "As a result of participation of our key partners (Russia, China, and India) in these organizations, trade and economic performance show progress. Trade has increased significantly and so have the numbers of joint implemented projects," the minister added.
