GRODNO, 31 May (BelTA) - The Consulate General of the Russian Federation will be opened in Grodno, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov said during a meeting with Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Karanik in Grodno on 31 May, BelTA has learned.
"The meeting with the governor is important as we need to discuss political issues. A decision has been taken to open the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Grodno. Today we will look into the options for sites, buildings. This process follows the regulations. But the political decision has been made and discussed at the level of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus," Ambassador Boris Gryzlov said.
He also noted that Grodno Oblast is very important in the Belarusian-Russian relations since it accounts for more than 50% of the total trade. The main export item is food, which holds more than 40% of the total volume of exports and imports. The ambassador stressed that it is important to see how Russian raw materials are used in the manufacture processes in Grodno Oblast.
During his visit to the region, Ambassador Boris Gryzlov visited Grodno Azot. "The company produces the most important goods because they ensure food security. I am talking about fertilizers that are needed to ensure high yields of crops," the ambassador added.
