Russia in favor of allowing Belarusians to resolve situation without outside prompts, pressure

SOCHI, 14 September (BelTA) – Citizens of Belarus should resolve the situation on their own without outside pressure. President of Russia Vladimir Putin made the relevant statement during negotiations with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Sochi on 14 September, BelTA has learned.

The Russian leader said: “I am very glad to see you. I've already congratulated you on winning the presidential election. But that congratulation was in a written form and over the phone. I am glad I can congratulate you in person now. I would like to wish you the very best. We see, certainly everyone knows that domestic political events relating to the presidential election are happening in Belarus. You know our stance very well. We are in favor of allowing Belarusians to resolve the situation on their own, without any prompts and pressure from the outside, in a calm manner and via a dialogue with each other in order to work out a common decision on how you should proceed.”

Vladimir Putin also noted that Russia knows about the Belarus president's proposal to start work on renewing the Constitution. “I believe it is logical, timely, and advisable. We are also aware of the position your representatives have stated in the OSCE in this regard. I think the relevant body has already been created,” he stated.

Vladimir Putin said he was confident that taking into account Aleksandr Lukashenko's political experience the relevant work will be organized perfectly and will allow reaching new heights in the development of the country's political system by enabling conditions for its future development.
