Rumas optimistic about Belarus-UK cooperation after Brexit

LONDON, 22 November (BelTA) – There will be more cooperation opportunities for Belarus and the United Kingdom after Brexit, Belarusian Premier Sergei Rumas said as he met with Prince Michael of Kent, a member of the British Royal Family, in London on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“Great Britain is heading towards withdrawal from the European Union. We believe that our cooperation opportunities will expand as part of the Global Britain vision,” Sergei Rumas said.

The premier welcomed progress in Belarus-UK cooperation. The two countries are expanding economic, political, humanitarian and military ties. “The Belarusian government is doing its best to facilitate contacts,” he assured.

On 22 November Sergei Rumas will take part in the first investment summit of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the countries participating in the Eastern Partnership. “The economic component of the Eastern Partnership initiative is very important for us. We actively cooperate with institutions, like the EBRD and the European Investment Bank and are set to sign agreements worth several million,” Sergei Rumas said.

Prince Michael of Kent noted that he cherishes good memories of his 2016 visit to Belarus. He asked the premier to give his best regards to the Belarusian president. He expressed hope for closer cooperation in road infrastructure projects.
