MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – The Roundtable of Democratic Forces institution has been registered in Belarus, former coordinator of the opposition headquarters, businessman and political expert Yuri Voskresensky said in an interview to ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Some progress has been made over the past two weeks. The justice authorities of Belarus have registered the Roundtable of Democratic Forces institution as an operator of the opposition's national dialogue. This is an information and analytical institution,” said Yuri Voskresensky.
According to him, the roundtable team will present its regulations and concept in the near future. “The leaders of the so-called Coordination Council from the opposition have contacted our team, the team of the Roundtable of Democratic Forces, and have already sent dozens of pages with proposals not only in the constitutional legislation but also in some related branches of law. More than 70 pages of proposals have already been received,” the political expert said.
Yuri Voskresensky added that the representatives of the Coordination Council, involved in the project, do not disclose their names.
The businessman explained why it was necessary to set up the new structure: “Opposition activists treat some existing platforms, for example, on the basis of trade unions, with prejudice. That is why we decided on setting up a platform including only members of the opposition movement. Leader's places in this roundtable are free, we do not claim any leadership. We have repeatedly addressed the leadership of the Coordination Council and their numerous structures with a request to return to Belarus and take the places of leaders.”
