DUSHANBE, 17 September (BelTA) - The SCO has established itself as an effective mechanism of multilateral partnership, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon said as he opened the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on 17 September, BelTA has learned.
The Tajikistan leader noted that over 20 years since its creation the SCO has successfully passed through the process of development and established itself as an efficient mechanism for multilateral partnership based on equality, consideration of each other's interests, mutual respect, trust and support.
Emomali Rahmon also hailed the SCO's rise in the international arena. In general, he is confident that the parties can be proud of the work they have done together over the years. “Today, the organization faces no less important tasks. I am confident that through strengthening the dialogue and expanding interaction, we will be able to multiply our contribution to ensuring peace, security and sustainable development at the global and regional level,” the president of Tajikistan said.
In his words, the summit will discuss the main results of the SCO activities over the past period, the status and prospects of multilateral cooperation, topical issues of regional and international cooperation. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on joint steps within the SCO to overcome the consequences of the pandemic.
