MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) - Belarus is striving to create a security architecture that takes into account the legitimate interests of all countries, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov said during a meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s General Committee on Political Affairs and Security held on the sidelines of the 32nd Annual Session of the OSCE PA in Porto, Portugal, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian parliamentary delegation led by Sergei Rachkov is participating in the 32nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Porto. The delegation also includes member of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Oleg Rummo.
European security architecture has been effectively dismantled, according to Sergei Rachkov. “The regime of conventional arms control in Europe no longer exists. Mechanisms for building trust and negotiation formats have either been paralyzed or completely blocked,” he added. “For over 30 years, Belarus has faithfully and fully fulfilled its obligations under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. However, the decision by NATO member states to suspend the treaty’s operation has effectively destroyed its legal foundation and left us with only one possible course of action: last year, Belarus adopted a law to suspend its participation in the CFE Treaty. We emphasize that this step is not an act of aggression, but a forced response to protect our national security amid escalating military-political tensions in the region. Belarus remains committed to conventional arms control and advocates for its restoration based on equality, transparency, and mutual respect in the interests of all parties.”
“We would like to once again emphasize that Belarus does not oppose the security of other states. We are committed to building a security architecture that is inclusive, indivisible, and takes into account the legitimate interests of all countries without exception,” the parliamentarian stressed. “Minsk firmly believes that the only way to overcome the current crisis is through dialogue: honest, respectful, and based on equality. Belarus has been and remains open to such dialogue.”
