NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 27 June (BelTA) - Peoples of Belarus and Russia have strong kinship ties, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a video address to the participants of the plenary session of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 27 June, BelTA has learned.

“I am glad to welcome participants and organizers of the 12th Forum of the Regions of Russia and Belarus. Meetings of representatives of the regions of the two countries have become a truly good tradition. This time the forum features more than 800 delegates from 79 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and all Belarusian regions. I would like to thank all of you for your tangible contribution to the further strengthening of the Russian-Belarusian strategic partnership, our Union State, as well as the good-neighborly and strong kinship ties that Russians and Belarusians share. It is important that almost all subjects of the Russian Federation and the regions of Belarus participate in the implementation of numerous mutually beneficial joint projects,” Vladimir Putin said.

According to him, Russia as the main economic partner of Belarus already accounts for about 60% of the country’s foreign trade. “Last year, trade demonstrated a new record high to exceed $50 billion. In terms of investment in the Belarusian economy, Russia firmly holds the first place, totaling about $5 billion,” the Russian president said.

“I know that the plans of the current meeting include the signing of about 100 commercial contracts to the total tune of RUB20 billion. Their implementation will certainly contribute to the closer integration of our two countries,” Vladimir Putin said.
