AMUR OBLAST, 12 April (BelTA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed Roscosmos to train and send a Belarusian cosmonaut into space. The Russian head of state gave this instruction at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Amur Oblast on 12 April, BelTA has learned.
“The decision that I would like to mention separately is to ask Roscosmos to provide the necessary training to a representative of Belarus and to send a Belarusian cosmonaut into space on the Russian spacecraft. We have discussed this with Mr Lukashenko for a long time. I am confident that this will become a new important milestone in our cooperation in the exploration and study of outer space,” the Russian leader said.
A reminder, a project is underway to prepare Belarusian citizens for a space flight, including the joint work in the International Space Station. The selection of candidates for a space flight and the preparation of the flight program for Belarusian citizens should be completed by 15 June 2022. After that, the final selection of candidates will take place.
